In the last year I have completely shocked myself which is quite incredible! For so many years I have been major anti face wipes to the point where I would wince at the sight of them being used on other people or my own mother talking to me about how she uses them – dirty, horrid things is what I would say in my head.
But somehow in the last 18 months I have started to take a real interest in facial wipes & I have tried out so many different brands. So far I have found Soap & Glory & Bioderma to be my favourites, I have actually just stocked up on the Bioderma wipes as I really do like them.
Now I do have a little guilty pleasure of browsing Marks & Spencers mostly the beauty department but I do like the store. This is a store my parents always shopped at when I was younger so it’s quite natural for me to be drawn there. Over the years they have certainly modernised everything & are definitely catering towards a wider market of ages but for a long time it was a very mature store so I always have a snigger to myself that I enjoy going here so much now.
Anyway whilst on one of my many trips I came across the brand Skyn Iceland. You see something you will notice about me or pick up in previous posts is I am an absolute sucker for packaging so that is the first thing that caught my eye with the brand, crisp clean white packaging with turqoise mixed in – now for me that screams elegant, exquisite (yeah I know!) & worth every penny. Well I bloody well hoped it was a brand worth every penny as it is not cheap…..
The first thing I ever tried from Skyn Iceland & love is the pore minimiser so I knew that there would probably be other products that I would like. I really wanted to try their face wipes so seized the moment & bought two packs (wowzer I know I know), why two I just don’t know I should have taken the sensible approach & bought one to see how I got on as they are £13 a pack, GULP, yes I really did say £13 a pack & you know what writing that down actually makes me feel sick – what was I thinking!!! But I guess when you read the blurb on the front & get sucked in like me you just don’t think about it:
“When you’re too tired to deal with the whole cleanser and wash cloth routine, these on-the-go foaming cloths are the ultimate skin savior. Infused with Icelandic glacial waters and beneficial natural extracts, they sweep away makeup, dirt, oil and other impurities while refreshing and soothing stressed skin. Best of all, there’s no water required. It has a clean scent, never tacky. Great for travel or every day!”
The wipes are quite a bizarre experience if I am honest, you have to wipe one together which then produces a lather?! At first I thought this was great fun but after a while it gets quite tiresome & well frankly annoying. The wipes do seem quite moist which is something I liked, the makeup was removed pretty well, I personally would not use these on the eyes – stingy! What did leave me dissapointed was the fact my skin felt incredibly tight & uncomfortable afterwards – cue the “I wish I have NOT purchased two packs” regrets. For me it is such a shame as the ingredient list is pretty good:
- White willow bark, a naturally occurring form of salicylic acid, soothes irritation and helps prevent breakouts and congestion in the skin.
- Icelandic kelp helps revitalize skin and fight inflammation
- Cucumber and cornflower extracts help soothe, soften and tone skin.
- Coconut, oat and amino acid-based surfactants provide extra-gentle cleansing.
- Alpha bisabolol, an anti-irritant derived from chamomile, helps calm and soothe skin.
- Icelandic Complex, a proprietary natural blend that replenishes the nutrients that stress depletes. Sourced from Iceland’s pure and potent environment, it contains pollution-free Icelandic Glacial Water with 6 essential minerals to hydrate and detoxify skin, Arctic Cloudberry and Cranberry Seed Oils “super fruits of the Arctic” rich in Omega Fatty Acids, Vitamins and potent antioxidants as well as Pure Molecular Oxygen which delivers energy into skin’s deepest layers to bring back a youthful glow.
I believe I managed to use one whole pack, yes I am pretty sure I did, however I only got through 1/2 of the second but I just felt so irritated (mood wise) by the product I could not bare to use another wipe! For me it was one of those experiences where you were jumping for your moisturiser, night balm / cream as soon as you had finished wiping, 100% dissapointed.
I have no qualms at trying something else from the range but for now there is nothing else I need but I do have a slight interest in the Artic Face Mist & Face Oil but for now I am fully covered at home with other products I can use first.
I am afraid to say this is not something I would personally recommend especially with that price tag attached – ouch & also for the fact that actually it was a really uncomfortable product to use.
I hope you liked the post guys, much love xx
